AUYAN TEPUY & THE LOST WORLD
15 DAYS - FROM US $2,710

This is a trip for the serious hiker. The trek consists of a 6-day trek up Auyan Tepuy (Devil's mountain) utilizing the same route used by explorer Jimmy Angel after his plane crashed on the summit when he was searching for the river of gold. Seventy percent of all plant life along the trail is endemic only to this unique environment and not found anywhere else in the world. Fly over Angel Falls the highest waterfall of the world. Visit the stunning Kavac Canyon and swim to the base of its waterfall. Navigate the Akanan, Carrao and the Churun rivers accompanied by the native Pemon people. Sleep in native camps along the riverbanks. Enter Devil's Canyon with its magnificent views of Auyan Tepuy. Hike to the Angel Falls overlook for magnificent views of one of the most beautiful nature wonders of the world.

ITINERARY


DAY 01
USA - CARACAS, VENEZUELA

Travel to Caracas, Venezuela. After arrival, meet ARE representative and transfer to hotel located 20 minutes from the airport. Overnight at hotel.

DAY 02
CARACAS - CIUDAD BOLIVAR

After breakfast, our guide will take you to the airport for a 1-hour flight to the colonial city of Ciudad Bolivar, located on the Orinoco River. After checking in at the hotel we will visit the local Indigenous museum, then go for stroll in the Colonial area of town and enjoy the sunset at the boardwalk and try spotting fresh water dolphins swimming in the mighty Orinoco River. Overnight in the colonial section of town. B,L,D

DAY 03
CIUDAD BOLIVAR - KAVAK

After breakfast we will depart on a chartered plane from Ciudad Bolivar (8 a.m.) to the village of Kavak ( 1h.40min). During the flight we will see spectacular views of canyons and long stretches of pristine rain forest below us. The highlight of this flight will be over flying Angel Falls and have a chance to photograph this magnificent falls from the air. When we arrive in Kavak, we will lodge in typical native Churuatas (huts) which are set right in front of the majestic Auyan tepui - an almost unreal sight of peace and beauty. We will sleep in tents or in hammocks for one night before we start our trek the next morning. In the afternoon we hike to Kavak Canyon to spend the afternoon swimming around the caves and river. DAY 04
KAVAK - GUAYARACA CAMP

After breakfast we begin our trek towards Auyan tepui and walk through savanna Vegetation. We will cross the Okoine & Abasacapan Rivers and finally ascend to Guayaraca Camp, the first small plateau of Auyan tepui, where we will spend our second night in tents. Today's trek will take proximally 6 hours. B,L,D

DAY 05
GUAYARACA CAMP - EL PENON CAMP

We will hike uphill to the second plateau of Auyan tepui walking through dense rain forest. After a while we cross high underbrush vegetation until we arrive at "El Pe–on", a gigantic rock where we will spend the night in tents under the overhanging rock . Today's trek will take approximately 6 hours. B,L,D

DAY 06
EL PENON CAMP - SUMMIT AND LIBERTADOR CAMP

The hike continues through a dark and impressive landscape of vegetation and rock formations until we cross a huge crevice and climb over large boulders to finally reach the top of Auyan tepui and the Libertador camp. In the afternoon we will have a chance to explore this vast plateau with virgin endemic forests and shrubby vegetation like bromeliads, orchids, palms and ferns B,L,D

DAY 07
AUYAN TEPUI PLATEAU

Full day of explorations of the Lost World. A chance to walk in/out a maze of canyons and rivers, search for unique plants and absorb the magnificent views from top of the tepui. Return to El Libertador camp for overnight. B,L,D

DAY 08
AUYAN TEPUI PLATEAU - GUAYARACA

Descend to Guayaraca retracing the trail that we used to reach the summit. B,L,D

DAY 09
GUAYARACA - KAVAK

Descend from Guayaraca to Kavak (5 hours). We sleep in Kavac. B,L,D

DAY 10
IWANA MERU

After breakfast we will transfer to the port of Kamarata to begin the navigation of the Akanan River in motor powered dugout canoes. During this portion of our journey we will start to circumnavigate Auyan Tepuy. We will have a chance to shoot several rapids and have frequent opportunities for great photography of the mountain from ever changing angles as the river winds through dense jungle. DAY 11
ARENAL

Continue our navigation down the Akanan River to the confluence of the Carrao River until we reach or camp of Arenal near the junction of the Carrao and Churun Rivers. Time in Arenal to relax and prepare for our trip to Angel Falls in the morning. B,L,D

DAY 12
ARENAL - ANGEL FALLS - ARENAL

Wake up early in the morning and after breakfast we will navigate the Churun River through the stunning Devil's Canyon till we reach Ratoncito Island. From here we will continue our journey on foot submerged in the lush rain forest vegetation till we reach the Angel Falls overlook. The natural platform will provide visitors with one of most dramatic views of one of the most magnificent natural wonders of the world. Later we will return to Ratoncito for a refreshing swim before returning to our camp in Arenal. B,L,D

DAY 13
ARENAL - CANAIMA

In the morning we will head downstream to the village of Canaima. Stop at the Pool of Joy and also Sapo Falls, a 150 ft water jump that has a cave where we can walk behind the water curtain. After arrival at our hotel we will enjoy dinner. Overnight in Canaima hotel. B,L,D

DAY 14
CARACAS

Morning flight back to Caracas. Transfer to hotel for overnight. B,L

DAY 15
CARACAS - USA

Ground transfer to international airport for flight out. B End of services.

COSTS PER PERSON BASED ON DOUBLE OCCUPANCY

INCLUDES: Air travel: Caracas to Ciudad Bolivar, Ciudad Bolivar to Kavac in private flight on Cessna 206 and Canaima to Caracas. All private transfers and transportation. One porter per person to carry personal belongings during the trek. Private boat for the river journey. Meals as indicated. Accommodations in hotels, hammocks and tents. Park fees and bilingual guide. Radio communication. Angel falls over flight.
