TESTIMONIALS

Hola Mario and Jeanine,

Thank you for such an incredible experience. At our age, it is wonderful to propose a trek in Peru to both of our teenagers, and receive an enthusiastic response equal to our own. I was doubtful that they would want to travel with us as they got older, but we all like to be active and challenged, so this appealed to our desire for adventure. We all agree that this was a trip of a lifetime. You were able to meet all of our individual needs in amazing ways.

We loved the unique surprises due to your special connections everywhere we went, like the exposure to local artists and collectors, native ceremonies, unique Peruvian music, the tours of historical Incan sights, the gourmet cuisine(!), the special excursions arranged for our active 16 year old adventurer(!!!), and more. Our accommodations were fabulous, whether they be camp-side with dining tent and amazing cloud forest scenery, or hotel luxury before and after our back country experience.

And most of all, we want to thank your talented team that helped guide us through this exploration of the Andes and its history and culture. The pace was perfect so that we could achieve our goals. What an awesome group! Great leadership, great fun! Thanks for letting us participate in this fantastic trek. It was beyond our expectation, and will remain a great family adventure in our memories.

Mary… ( Mike, Amy and Michael)

Mario,

I would like to thank you for an awesome adventure in Peru. From the city life to the Andes Mountains, it couldn't have been a better trip. The food was incredible and all of the cooks and guides were amazing. If it wouldn't be too big of a problem, please tell Fernando thanks for everything. He was a great guide. But, I would also like to thank you for letting me continue on the trek with John. That and allowing me to do a whole extra climb above Machu Picchu topped off the trip and made it a great experience. Climbing the ladders in the clouds was extraordinary. No words can tell you how thankful I am for leading my family and me on this trip.

Thank you,
Michael D. Partheymuller

Hi Mario,

Just wanted to let you know that our trip (May 24 - 29, 2005) very much exceeded our expectations at all levels. It was truly unbelievable - I had to pinch myself many times to remind me that I wasn't in a zoo somewhere. The lodges and staff were absolutely amazing! Someone must have been looking out for us when they assigned Silverio as our guide for bird-watching. He was fantastic! We identified 112 species of birds (or rather, Silverio identified them - we just looked like idiots with permanent grins on our faces). Everyday our senses were bombarded with foreign sights, sounds and smells that didn't remind us of the jobs we left behind. And in the evenings, I found Cusquena beer!

Silverio introduced me to Eduardo Nycander while at TRC and I would appreciate it if you would forward this email along to him.

Thanks a million for a hassle-free fantasy tour! We're hooked and will return.

Cheers,

Dear Mario,

We made it back from a fantastic vacation thanks to you and all of the people that you had work with us. There was not one flaw in the time we were gone. Fernando, our guide, was a very good guide, who took care of all of or needs while we were hiking! He is looking forward to seeing you later this year. Everything you arranged for us was first class all the way. Our favorite was the Pueblo in Aguas Calientes!! Yet, the other places were equally as nice. The grounds of the Monesterio were so beautiful, I just loved to sit outside and look at the grounds. Again, I especially want to thank you and Barb for all the work that you did to make this family vacation our best trip ever!!! The people that you contracted with in Peru also did a first class job. Again, I cannot say enough how professional you are and what a pleasure it was to work with someone so organized and easy to deal with long distance. I hope some day that you will come to Oregon and we can meet each other. Thanks for everything you did for the Gassner family.

Sincerely, Rick Gassner

Hello Boyd,

Thank you for the great chance to see spectacular scenery and lots of wildlife. The penguin reserve is not to be missed. We got to walk among these incredibly entertaining birds. It was wonderful! I really enjoyed visiting the World Heritage Sites. Everyone loved seeing the guanacos, seals, and, most of all, the penguins. Torres del Paine was incredible. It has to be one of the world's special places.

Boyd and Barbara,

Hi Mario,

Bill and I would like to thank you for another fantastic trip. From the beautiful boat and gorgeous scenery to our excellent guide, everything was perfect. Even the weather! Bill and I would love to go back to Chile, perhaps touring the wine country. Feel free to contact me if you'd like more feedback about various aspects of our trip. We look forward to our next travel adventure with your company.

Cheers, Janet

Dear Mario,

A little feedback on our trip to Posada Amazonas: it wasn't at all as advertised. We expected torrential rain and the air thick with mosquitos, but the sun shone almost the whole time and there were hardly any mosquitos (well, there were a few, but they were petite and gentle compared to our Canadian mosquitos). But seriously, we did have a wonderful time, added hundreds of birds to our life lists, saw an armadillo, capybara, agoutis, lobos de rio, a tyra (the last two were especially nice for me, since I am a mammalogist who has studied other species of aquatic and arboreal Mustelidae), and all 5 local species of monkey, besides tracks of jaguar and peccary, and thoroughly enjoyed our hikes and boat rides in the jungle. Our 84 year old blind Mom, after enduring the rigours of Machu Picchu, was happy just to sit on the sunny boardwalks or in the shade of the palm thatch according to the time of day, and listen to the parrots and monkeys, so she had a wonderful time, too. Cesar is a great guide, thoroughly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and a great bird and game spotter (I'm pretty good at that myself, but more than met my match!), besides being a friendly and gracious companion. We also appreciated that he was so attentive to our Mom, helping her and guiding her. Attached is a picture of Cesar feeding Mom a piece of cake at the transfer station on the bank of the Tambotata River and one of Cesar and me doing a little dance in front of the giant kapok tree. Back in Lima, Mario Cabrejos and I had a great time birding together. I'm not sure if I wrote down Cesar's hotmail address correctly, so if I have it wrong, I would appreciate it if you would send me the correct one. Thanks for organizing such a great trip for us.

Are you doing the same sort of thing in Africa? It's a place I haven't been to...yet.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Mario,

After spending an amazing month working with ANIA in the community of Boca Amigo, Madre de Dios, I have returned to the United States. I just wanted to thank you for putting me into contact with Joaquin Leguia and his organization, ANIA. You helped me discover an incredible project, community, and an unforgettable experience.

I hope we can keep in touch and again thank you so much for everything.

Dear Mario,

Now that I am back from Peru and caught up with most of my everyday life, I wanted to send you a note. I cannot thank you enough for the excellent trip you created for our group! From our entry into Peru, when we all got the "green light," to our last day when Kika and Milagros came to join us for a final pisco sour, it has been an excellent adventure, full of "green lights!"

You have been a pleasure to work with. You created an engaging and well-paced itinerary for our trip to start with, and were particularly responsive in accommodating our special requests and unusual destinations. Your knowledge and love of the country was apparent in your planning, and everyone we met in Peru expressed liking you quite a lot!

The guides you arranged for us were top-notch. Each shared their own unique attributes with us - Kika and her vivacious, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable approach to leading us; Helga with her sublte humor and introspective and intellectual knowledge of cultural history; Vico with his patience and earnest desire to teach us about the rainforest, and Ofelia with her efficient and welcoming help. Each of these guides went even beyond the excellent itinerary to provide us with authentic experiences, to meet and connect with the people, culture and nature of Peru.

At every destination, we were met with warm, welcoming people. For example, Olaf invited us into his ranch home and even sang while he joined us for lunch. Mari Solari dedicated hours to showing us her arts and her home. The rangers at the Paracas National Reserve allowed us to peek at the penguin they had which was soon to be re-introduced to the wild. Monica and her colleague at Acarema spent quite a bit of time teaching us about their organization and the habitats they are working to conserve. Milena and Marcos at Punta San Juan spent more hours than you can imagine leading us around the reserve and enjoyed watching our total fascination with seeing 900 penguins, many thousand sea lions, and 100,00 cormorants all in one location! All the staff at El Portal del Pisco restaurant joined us in dancing Musica Negra and Salsa after our specially-arranged dance show and lessons. Our Nazca Lines pilot shared with us some little-seen lines. Cusi Seminario toured us through their mini-zoo. The principals and children in each of the schools shared time, songs, stories and games with us. The examples go on and on.

Every detail was well taken care of. Between your careful planning and your excellent guides, we never encountered any difficulty during our trip. From the plentiful and delicious food, to the ever available water, to the entertainment, to calling us to check on us towards the middle of the trip, you took care of every detail. Even rain at Machu Picchu couldn't dampen our spirits!

As our group meets for a reunion and photo exchange this weekend, we will remember all the unique experiences we shared during our two week Peruvian adventure. And I will be very happy that I had the good sense to select Andean and Rainforest Expeditions as our travel company. Thank you for all your work.

Sincerely,

Dear Mario,

Since our fateful dinner meeting last February, our journeys took an adventurous turn. The sparkle in your eyes as you spoke of Tambobata, the macaws, the early morning walks, the beauty in the isolation of the rainforest, the intimacy of small groups, delightful, well-educated guides, good food, interesting folks, a plethora of critters in the wild, a journey into the rich history of the Incas and Spaniards in Cusco, the awe of Machu Piccu, and personable, accessible guides for the entire journey, remains memorable. It was that, and much more. Though lying on the beach for a 15-year old young woman seemed far more appealing, Rosie found great excitement in the travel to our southern sister. 12-year old Tucker was energized by the mysteries of the rainforest, for he was the wide-eyed one at 4:30am. Our curiosity was piqued by the unique nature of each day's events. A walk through the rainforest proved a journey well worth rising for, being greeted by howler monkeys, leafcutter ants, wild turkeys, caimans, owls, macaws, capybaras, spider monkeys, and (Aldo beware!), JAGUARS! In addition, a delightful surprise- cold beer! And each of our guides made certain we were connected to the experience in a profound way. I feel as though we made many new friends.

The opportunity to share this time with our children increased the foundation of our relationships and provided us an exciting, safe, absolutely fresh look at the world we live in. Every day was a new adventure, as we were introduced into a different culture and a new perspective. This trip will forever remain in our hearts with fondest memories. Thanks so much for facilitating this holiday for our family. We are grateful to you. Please connect with us when you are in the County, Mario.

Take care. Stay in touch.

As ever,
Lynn

Dear Mario,

You are to be complimented on your attention to every detail of the adventure, from boats, to airplanes, buses to new mattresses, wine glasses in the Andes to new rubber boots in the rain forest - you never missed a beat.

We truly enjoyed the introduction to the traditional crafts of the native culture at Chinchero, with Pablo Semenario and in the gallery of Mari Solari. These were experiences to which most visitors to Peru are not exposed but which gave us a much better feeling and understanding of this country.

As we all mentioned at our farewell luncheon, the day in Patacancha with the members of the village was the high point of the two weeks, I have looked many times at the photos we took that day, and two things strike me. The first are the faces of the people - they are so strong ,natural and beautiful. The other is the wonderful color of the traditional dress. I just hope that your experiment with us will lead to other opportunities for the people to preserve their wonderful culture and way of life.

Again, thank you for planning and executing a simply superb experience. I hope we will be able to join you, Steve and W&L on another adventure somewhere else in this wonderful world.

Best regards,
David and Eleanor McCain

Jeanine--

The trip was fabulous!!

Hotels in Cusco and Aquas Calientes excellent. Particularly the Pueblo in Aqias Calientes. I've already recommended that place to a couple of people. It's not cheap ($200 nite/double with breakfast), but I'd say it's still a really good value. I hadn't realized the lodgings were nestled in among the trees. I sat on our balcony and within 20 minutes had seen a half dozen really neat birds. (Couldn't tell you want they were.)

I can't say enough good things about Rainforest Expeditions. I wrote extensive rave reviews on the customer feedback form they gave us. They are really doing eco-tourism the way it should be done. The partnership with the native community was just awesome, including the fact they are giving the native community 60% of profits, and hope to turn Posidas over to the locals within 10 years. My guide, Silverio, was superlative. First of the locals that's doing guiding. I was blown away by how good he speaks English, given he apparently only started learning in earnest arount 3 years ago. His knowledge of local flora and fauna was most impressive. And, it was clear he came by that knowledge as a result of his love of all things natural.

Mario- I am not sure you have access to e-mail right now, but I wanted to thank you so very much for the trip, it was absolutely, completely, and Indescribably incredible! I can see what draws you to Posadas Amazonas, it is almost like a drug, and I could have just stayed there forever. The people who are there and come there are truly special.

Dear Mario Corvetto:
Carol Miller and I (Judy Spitler) recently booked an Andean and Rainforest Expeditions trip to Tambopata Research Center and Machu Picchu. Unfortunately, the trip had to be cut short due to a death in my family. I wish to commend Andean and Rainforest Expeditions on the expertise and compassion of their staff in helping us deal with the arrangements for our return. This expertise existed on every level of the organization. In particular, Philip , our guide at TRC; Patty in the Puerto Maldonada office; Maria Esher and Mario Cabrejos in Lima all went far beyond the duties of a job to extend to us every courtesy and to make our return as stress-free as possible.
The true quality of an organization is reflected in how they handle emergencies and the unexpected, and yours is as professional as any I have encountered. For that reason, . I would highly recommend Andean and Rainforest Expeditions to anyone interested in Peruvian travel. Plus, the trip was marvelous! We were only at Tambopata Research Center 24 hours, but we saw capybara, seven species of monkeys, five species of macaws and seven species of parrots and parakeets. I can only hope to return to spend a proper amount of time exploring the area; and that return would definitely be with Andean and Rainforest Expeditions. Thank you again for everything.
Best regards, Judy Spitler

Dear Jeanine,
It has been so long since I have written you, that you probably do not remember us. My husband, Richard, our neighbors, the Blazars, and I went to TRC and then continued the rest of our tour in Peru following your advice. We loved every bit of it. We were blessed our second day out by seeing a jaguar on the banks of the Tambopata River and we used our video camera. When we got to camp that night we ran our battery down so far showing it to everyone that we ran out of "juice" to video the rest of the trip---!!

Edwin was absolutely a wonderful guide and very knowledgeable about the birds. We saw so much!!

I feel the need to compliment all of the workers we met along the way for their dedication to ecology, love of nature and wanting to share whatever they saw with us. We were so excited when one of the workers in the kitchen, perhaps our chef, Sabino, called us out to see a group of squirrel monkeys near the kitchen quarters...such a wonderful place and great people!! Thanks again for all the miniscule tasks you accomplished to make this a very memorable trip.
Sincerely,
Rich and Pris Brommer

Name: José Kirchner

We stayed ten days or so at TRC and loved it! On the way, we visited "ecotourism" lodges that kept "pet" animals (all poorly kept and misfed), dumped garbage out of sight, treated people like cattle and abused their environment. They DID have more creature comforts.
TRC was Spartan, but comfortable and hospitable, clean (suprprisingly biting insect-free) with wonderful hiking trails and wildlife, friendly staff and students, the fabulous clay lick, great night walks (cats, frogs, reptiles). LOTS of birds, mammals, etc.
We've traveled the 7 continents and have done lots of eco- and SAY they are eco- travel over 40 years, and THIS is the place for us. Nothing fancy- but it is real, safe, comfortable, and supporting local ecosystems andPeruvians learning about them. We do hope to return...

Mario,
I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful time I had in Peru. Everything was perfect. Your contact people were wonderful. They were available to me at all times when I needed them (e.g. airport, hotel).
The Inca Trail was great. The cook, Nancy, did a great job as well as the porters. My guide was very good too. He spoke fluent English so I could understand. On the last night, I brought out a deck of playing cards and he showed me a local Peruvian card game. It was a lot of fun.
Thanks, again, Judy Tomkins

Hello Mario,
It was a wonderful trip. Everything worked our very smoothly. We had no trouble with our flights or lugggage. Both lodges were very comfortable; we really enjoyed the "open wall" where we could see and hear things in the forest. The service and food at both lodges was outstanding; everyone was friendly, helpful, and certainly interested in making each visitor's stay a memorable one.
And thanks to you, Mario, who requested a good birding guide for us; we had a super experience with Renzo. He was perfect for us--interested and knowledgeable about many aspects of the forest and an expert birder. Having Renzo as our guide made the trip for us. As you know, we have visited other Amazon area tropical forests, but this was the first time our guide had a strong biology background. Renzo was able to convey much more information that just the identity of a plant or animal; he could also give some natural history about it as well. We think it's also helpful that he had experience outside Peru, not only in other South American countries but the US as well.
Again, thank you for all your help and your willingness to answer my endless list of questions. We certainly would recommend this experience to others and would be willing to be a reference for either you, Mario, or Rainforest Expeditions, in general, if that would be helpful.
I hope we will be in contact with you in the future for another trip to TRC and APA.
With warmest regards,
Tom and Judy Gire

The trip couldn't have been more perfect. We loved Peru, and the hotels you put us into were beautiful. (We would have liked to have spent more time in the Libertador, but the train back from Machu Picchu hit a cow, so we were delayed while they came to fetch us by buses/cars from the valley. We went to sleep as soon as we got back to Cusco, after we made our way through all the traffic from the big political rally that was happening in the square. Those people drive like lunatics there!! Then up at 5:00am to head to the airport for Lima...)
Our guides were all incredible, and I recommend each of them highly. Especially Luz Marie in Cusco - she was great!
The only thing that I would do differently would be to spend a night in Lima before heading to Puerto Maldonado. We left our house in Denver on Sunday at 9:00am, and didn't get to sleep again until we got to Posada on Monday afternoon around 3:00. We had a hard time staying awake, and then were much too tired to go for the afternoon hike at Posada. I would definately advise people NOT to do what we did, but to rest in Lima first.
We spent another great day in Chinchero and Yucay giving gifts to the children, and then filled our suitcases with wonderful stuff to bring home. I think I have 6 homemade dolls, and maybe 8 alpaca scarfs! The people in Peru are so incredibly photogenic - I think the pictures will turn out beautifully.

Thanks for the greatest trip of our lifetimes! We were VERY surprised when we found out we had a private tour guide for just the two of us. We got to see much more wildlife on our own in a small group than we would have in a large tour group. We feel we appreciate the rainforest much more with our private experience than we would have with a large tour.

We would appreciate any help you can give us to keep in contact with our tour guides, Andres and Gladys. Although we told them how much we enjoyed our tours, we still would like to keep in touch with them.

Also, we'd like to meet you sometime. If you're ever in Colorado Springs, give us a call.
Thanks again,

Hola Mario,
I cannot thank you enough for all that you did in putting together for us a truly unforgettable trip; every detail was absolutely taken care of. The guides were beyond knowledgeable and friendly. They became fast friends. Mario Cabrejos is just a wonderful warm, funny, deep, intellectual, worldly person. We met Fiorela (his wife) and she told us all about how your families are so connected. We really enjoyed ourselves spending time with Mario in Lima both on arriving and on or way back to the states. He went absolutely above and beyond the call of duty with us.

Fredy Delgado (our guide on the Inca Trail) was just a delight. he was also very funny, very passionate, a real gentleman and trooper. We beat him at cards over a couple of bottles of wine several nights on the trail. I think he was surprised to see that he got stuck with four women on the trial, and how much fun we had; no wimps there. The other guides teased him terribly. He really made the experience very special and profound for all of us.

Renzo was just unbelievable. Half jungle cat, half human. We had a very deep and moving experience sharing his jungle with him. I enjoyed getting to know him and appreciated his love for the jungle, depth of knowledge and his commitment to keeping it a sacred place. And so, our experience of both TRC and PA was very very positive. A trip I would recommend to anyone who wants an authentic experience of Peru.
I would love to share more with you about our trip and hope very much to meet you one day.
Please stay in touch and know how very much we all appreciated you efforts in sharing your wonderful, mystical, and amazing country. For me it was like going home, I haven't been in South America for 20 years ... foods I have not eaten in more than twenty years -- pastel the choclo, chicha, humitas, lucumas, chirimoyas, ceviche, palta...
Personally, it was a very moving and emotional trip and I thank you for the experience. It will impact my life in ways that I am sure today I am not even aware of...
Gracias Mario.
Un abrazo,
Maria

Hello Mario,
It's Mary Harris. You arranged a trip for us last November to the Tambopata Research Center. It has been a long time I know, but I wanted to let you know what a great experience it was for our family. We truly feel lucky that we were able to visit this amazing place. I especially want to let you know how well run the entire operation is. Our guide, Renzo was awesome!! He was extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna (especially the birds, which thrilled me), and was caring and a great guy. In fact all of the staff were great. The food was delicious, interesting and nutritious. It is also very obvious that the company and the staff, both, care about protecting the area, and I feel it was run in a very ecological manner.
Thanks again for arranging our trip.
Mary Harris
