POSADA
AMAZONAS EXPERIENCE
Posada Amazonas Lodge is located on the Ese'eja Native
Community's territory and is directly adjacent to the 1.5 million hectare
Tambopata-National Reserve in southeastern Amazonian Peru. With your
English speaking guide you will explore the many trails and observation
areas in this pristine Amazonian rainforest. Natural attractions include
an oxbow lake with giant river otters, parrot and small macaw clay licks,
small monkeys, and hundreds of bird species. The canopy tower provides
easy access to one of the world's final biological frontiers: the rain
forest canopy. Opportunities for cultural interaction with the Ese'eja:
guided activities include ethnobotanical walks, visits to small scale
farms, and other experiences we are developing in association with our
native partners. For those interested in delving more deeply into the
Amazonian rainforest you can extend your stay and visit the Tambopata
Research Center located in the Tambopata National Reserve. (see below)
Posada
Amazonas was awarded the 2000 Ecotourism Excellence Award by Conservation
International and Conde Nast Traveler Ecotoursim Award in 2000.
Access is simple: fly from Lima or Cuzco on a daily
scheduled commercial flight to the city of Puerto Maldonado and travel
by boat two hours up the Tambopata River to Posada Amazonas. The lodge
is located about 15 minutes walking from the river.

TAMBOPATA
RESEARCH CENTER (TRC) EXPERIENCE
Tambopata Research Center is located in the Tambopata
National Reserve directly adjacent to the Bahuaja National Park, in
southeastern Amazonian Peru, 500 meters from the world's largest macaw
clay lick. Learn more about the
macaw clay lick. TRC is an ideal setting for those that want a true nature
experience in one of the last remaining rainforest of such biodiversity.
Because of its remote location in a Connecticut-sized tract of uninhabited
wilderness, it contains stable populations of endangered wildlife. The
small scale of its infrastructure and operations and the presence of
researchers and naturalist guides, Tambopata Research Center is an excellent
location for in depth explorations of Amazonian nature and wildlife.
During your entire stay, your Peruvian guide- biologist who will share
his or her extensive knowledge of the jungle and its inhabitants. In
addition to being guides, these biologist perform on-going research
providing you with the opportunity to learn first-hand about their research
findings.
One of the highlights of your stay at TRC will be visits to the world's
largest known mineral clay lick, where hundreds of parrots and macaws of up to 15 species
congregate daily to ingest the detoxifying clay. This clay lick is less than 500 meters
from Tambopata Research Center. Other attractions include five identified macaw nesting sites,
seven distinct habitats easily accessible form TRC, numerous opportunities to spot primates
and other larger mammals.
Access: Fly from Lima or Cuzco on a daily scheduled commercial flight
to Puerto Maldonado and travel by boat for two hours up the Tambopata River to Posada Amazonas.
The following day, continue another four to five hours upriver to the Tambopata Research Center.
The lodge is located less than 10 minutes walking from the river.
PROGRAMS:
All programs to the Tambopata Research Center (TRC), are combined
with lodging at Posada Amazonas (PAL). In case of lack of availability at Posada Amazonas,
we provide our clients with alternative lodging within the area and always accompanied by guides
and boats from Rainforest Expeditions.
