Chile is a paradise for travelers looking for unparalleled outdoor
experiences balanced with culture, gentle people, fine wine and cuisine. Chile's European style
city life is contrasted by some of the most unspoiled and majestic wilderness areas in the world
where visitors can explore the Atacama Desert and Patagonia which includes the Island Chiloé,
the fjords, Pumalin Park, and the Lake region. Its abundance of geographical wonders include snow
caped volcanoes, the world's highest geysers, majestic Andean peaks, pristine lakes, the driest
coastal desert in the world, untouched fiords, deep blue glacier fields and fantastic canyons.
Located on the Pacific coast of South America, Chile's long and narrow territory extends for over
2,600 miles from North to South hardly ever exceeding 140 miles in width.
This trip has the perfect mix of exotic wildlife, fascinating culture and
breathtaking beauty and is ideal for those travelers looking for a seafaring
adventure. Your trip will begin in Chile's cosmopolitan capital city
Santiago where you will enjoy a wine tasting at one of its world class
wineries. The following five days you will sleep and travel on board
the Cahuella where you will navigate through many smaller lush green
islands and have the opportunity to interact with more friendly local
families. You will navigate through the more remote islands on the way
to the spectacular grandeur of mainland Patagonia and its canals and
fjords. Here you will witness the untouched wilderness of the steep,
glacier topped Andes, view innumerable birds and old growth temperate
rainforest and visit the numerous hot springs.
Your journey begins in Puerto Montt with a trip
south along the coast of the Reloncav’ Sound on the first section of the Southern Highway,
the gravel road extending into Patagonia. We will travel along spectacular coastal and mountain
scenery before we arrive in the town of Hornopiren, where the fjords begin and road travel ends.
Here, you will board the Cahuella and meet her crew to begin a four-day cruise through the
majesty of the world famous Patagonian fjords. On your journey you will witness the untouched
wilderness of the steep glacier-topped Andes, old growth temperate rainforest and numerous
hot springs that motivated American Conservationist Douglas Tompkins to preserve over
500,000 acres as South America's newest and largest private park project. Every afternoon
we will drop anchor in protected bays and go ashore, sometimes to walk along the deserted
beaches and other times to visit natural hot springs hidden in the native forest. Each evening,
your talented chef will surprise you with delicacies made from the freshest local products from
the sea and countryside.
