LAKE TITICACA HIDEAWAY
4 DAYS - 3 NIGHTS

DAY 01
PUNO - LAKE TITICACA

Arrive in Puno or Juliaca and meet ARE representative. The group will have a 3-hous journey along Lake Titicaca to the village of Cambria located on the shores of the lake. Along the way the group will have a chance to stop and photograph the high Andean scenery and traditional villages. Once in Cambria, we will board a boat and travel to our island retreat. We suggest taking some time to rest due to the high altitude. Lake Titicaca is located at 12,529 ft above sea level. L,D

DAY 02
PUNO - LAKE TITICACA

The group will have breakfast in the terrace before departing on a day tour. We will go by boat back the mainland and visit the small village of Conima with its characteristic altiplano ecosystem, charm and rich Aymara culture. The group will return to the island for lunch.

In the afternoon, the group will have time to explore the island and enjoy the peacefulness of the island, the variety of native highland vegetation, the resident herd of vicuñas and alpacas and the swiping views of the lake. After a relaxing bath with hot water from the lodges' solar panels we will enjoy the fireplace and a special dinner made with local products.

DAY 03
PUNO - LAKE TITICACA

After breakfast the group will departure by boat to the island of Taquile. This picturesque island with commanding views of Lake Titicaca and the snow-capped peaks of the Bolivian Andes is unique because of the community's blend of the traditional with the modern. The men and women of the island continue wearing their traditional clothing decorated with intricate and colorful designs. The men will spend every free moment of the day netting wool hats and the women work on their intricate weavings. All the textiles tell the story of the island's flora, fauna and constellations.

The land in Taquile is worked without the use of modern machinery but they have learned the values of non-polluting technology like solar energy. The visitor will see first-hand the many uses for these solar panels. Panels for electricity, cooking, water pumps, charging boat batteries and even cell phones. It is hard to find anything on wheels in the island and dogs are not allowed. The locals believe that dogs are for guarding property but that they are not necessary in the island because of their strong belief in honesty and hard work. After a box lunch the group will travel by boat to the floating islands of the Uros. The islands are constructed with the wild reed the local people harvest from the lake. The best way to describe the experience is: "It is like walking on a giant water bed". The people of these islands produce handicrafts to sell to visitors and fish for a living. Overnight at Hotel in Puno.

DAY 04
PUNO - SILLUSTANI - OUT

After breakfast, the group will travel to the pre-Inca complex of Sillustani located on a hilltop overlooking lake Umayo 18 miles from the city of Puno. Sillustani is one of the most particular of pre-Inca complexes in all of Peru. The cylindrical and square shaped hand carved granite funeral towers are called "chulpas" and were built by the Collas people to bury their nobles. As is customary with pre-Inca and Inca beliefs, the noble Collas were buried with their personal belongings and food for their journey to the next world. Some of the "chulpas" reach over 36 feet in height. Later, the group will drive to the airport for flight out. B
